TMC2209 is an ultra-silent motor driver IC for two-phase stepper motors. Its continuous drive current is 2A and peak current is 2.8A. Compared with TMC2208, the driving current of this IC is not only improved by 0.6a-0.8a, but also this IC increases the function of locked-motor test.

hi.

i using skr2 + tmc2209 in my 3d printer

recently, my tmc2209 driver was damaged after printing over 24h, 35°C (stepper is nema 17HS3401, 24V)

then, i found that reason is short between GND and VDD.

to make sure it more accurately, i remove tmc2209 chip from BTT TMC 2209 module.

when i only checked tmc2209 chip, tmc2209 chip was short between GND and VCC_IO (VDD).

it mean tmc2209 chip was only damaged.

but i dont know reason of short.

it doesn't seem to be overtemp or overheat (just my think)

how can i know reason?

Hello. Dont know if you are still wondering or if you figured it out. In case you still are, a diode likely failed. If there is a high voltage spike then a diode can fails via punch-through which causes it to fails closed circuit. I recommend carefully desoldering D5 close to the 24V input. That diode is essentially acros the higher voltage rail. Then see if the short is cleared. If so then you might want to replace that diode and probably the fuses.
