Sorry for my late update. I know about phpexcel - and thanks for the hint. But 
the codeplex project and this small one have different targets: My aim is to 
provide a lightweight, quick-out-the-box solution to dump an array into excel.

I guess, codeplex ambitions are far more greater than that. Their software is 
an absolute heavy-weight which proposes amazing solutions to really generating 
large & complex excel files with charts and everything.
