Speed of entry/media availability (Cell D8, UX/UI Idea 8) #177

Idea: Re: speed of entry in case of image posting: we need to think how to handle the situations when media is not easily accessible. I explained this situation in the email about media availability

Initial thoughts:

New Entry [greyed out help text] "write how you feel or add a picture or do both!" (this is an example text, but something like that suggesting that text only is fine would be beneficial)

I'll add more today.

Hi Marina,

Below is my response to what you wrote in the cell in the spreadsheet. I'll look at what you've just written & comment on that too.

Yes, I agree!

I had two suggestions to kickstart our thinking about this:

1) We could have some stock images as easily accessible permanent placeholders. Some ideas might be giving users an option to choose from that range of rage faces we had chosen for our mood tracker on the original Spoutlets site: http://spoutlets.com/tracker.html. Or perhaps some other emoticons.

2) We could look at Tumblr & see how they approach a post of text/quote versus a post of an annotated image. What I think could be helpful about looking at Tumblr’s UI is how they represent this different array of entry type. Their UI demonstrates to the user that he can put in different kinds of entries, ie some text entries, some photo entries, etc. You don’t feel pressured to have to produce a certain kind of content. (Though, I do think their UI might be a little complicated with too many choices….?)

I sent you an email of the Tumblr options, even though I’m pretty sure you’ve seen them (sorry I don’t have a screencast acct yet & I’m on a computer whose browser doesn’t support Dropmark)

Re your last post, yes, yes!!! This is exactly the sort of thing I think would be best. That kind of copy is good. I've been looking at how Tumblr approaches the various kinds of entries. I'll look into some other sites too.
