How should direct page accessing be treated?

Bypassing authentication should they be redirected to the front screen or offered an opportunity to sign up on the patterns page?

They should be offered an opportunity to sign up on the patterns page. It should be a Modal.

The only thing that is publicly visible is: http://spoutlets.com/vent-stream.html

If it's a modal what should be in the background? We can't show the user graph. What should vent stream show for the username if they're not logged in?
