The password protects the directory the web pages are in and one login should be enough to grant access to any page in that directory. I don't get repeat login requests using Firefox, Chrome, etc under Linux unless I clear the browsing history/cookies.
But that did happen to me using IE on a friends Windows machine once. So I wonder if it is a security setting that you would need to set for your browser? I did not track down the issue at the time so I'm not sure.
