mkvmerge failed to identify file #14

I had videoslimmer working fine previously. I don't think anything had changed, but now I get the following error: "mkvmerge failed to identify file"

Please help!

hmm interesting!, so can you tell from the output which file its having issues with? i would suspect the file is corrupt and thus mkvmerge is unable to identify the audio/video streams in the container, try temporarily renaming the extension so that its not picked up, or move it out of the path you are processing, it should then allow videoslimmer to proceed.

It does it with all my files; every single one! Even those that I swear its run successfully on before! I don't know what to do!?

I'm happy to do a gotomeeting or something so that you may have a look!? I'd very much appreciate it, and happy to give some cash to help the situation! The problem I have is I recently became blinded in one eye and severely injured my brain; so doing this kind of computer tasks is very difficult now days! :(

Some questions:-

  1. Have you updated mkvtoolnix? Videoslimner only works with older versions.

  2. Can you play back any of the video files that videoslimner cannot process?

  3. Can you try running the GUI version of mkvtoolnix and attempt to open one of the files that videoslimner cannot process

liquidsmoke66 commented 4 years ago

What version specifically of mkvtoolnix is known to work perfectly with videoslimmer? I'll get that one just to be safe!

liquidsmoke66 commented 4 years ago

I have used the mkvtoolnix i have installed to view files using the 'mkv info' tool, and 'header editor'. Seems to work fine...!?

v19 is the last supported version of mkvtoolnix, link to download below:- https://www.videohelp.com/software?d=mkvtoolnix-64-bit-19.0.0-setup.exe

if you do use the above version then make sure you uninstall any existing installation of mkvtoolnix before you install v19.

sorry to hear about your injury, sadly i dont offer remote support as my time is very restricted so im afraid any sort of rdp/vnc is out of the question.

I don’t use Linux. Hence I’d like to get this python script working again. It was been working fine for years!!!!

liquidsmoke66 commented 4 years ago

If anyone can assist via gotomeeting or similar. I can donate money in return! :)
