Arduino Mega slim #1105

What change would like to see?
Is it possible to make a smaller/ slimmer version of the Arduino Mega? 
Something along the lines like the Mini pro or the Nano? 

Why?

Many of my projects, and i'm sure other's projects require the Mega, but the 
Mega is kinda too long. It there any way to maybe make it into a square, with 
the option of having female connectors OR male pins.

Would this cause any incompatibilities with previous versions?  If so, how
can these be mitigated?
No incompatibility issues.

This would be a completely different board (even if it uses the same CPU as the 
Mega), I don't know if that would be realized at some point.
