When I first got the game I thought the whole point of having different studios was to have each studio specialize; like one studio does simulation, another does action, another does RPG's. but, after playing I found that studios get bored doing the same game type over and over which then makes having different studios more of a repetitive grind then a way to organize the company.

right now, each studio starts with full desire for new genres and looses that desire as they make new games. if you reverse this, where new studios start with low desire/experience (maybe 25% or something for all genres and then over time, they gain desire/experience in a particular genre which then gives them a productivity boost to create games in that specialization.

I can understand if the "customers" get bored with the same type of games being published in a small period of time; we could call it "customer fatigue". This would be your game-balance reason to keep people from spamming the market with small games of the same type. The fatigue could be as simple as each game released of the same genre over the past year hurts the overall score. Customer fatigue would also be affected by competitor releases as well so you have to watch the market and either release your games first, or dive into a new market when it gets saturated.

Fact is, happiness is an incentive on using new game genre. So I first need to introduce a new incentive mechanism for players to use new game genres.

I understand. I have to remember that you are designing a game and games need balance and rules and reasons for doing things. my suggestion was coming from a personal perspective of living out my fantasy of making games (since I don't have the skill or commitment required to do what you are doing) and I just want to make simulation and strategy games.

honestly, I guess I could make something else in game and just pretend its another sim game (nothing stopping me from calling a casual atlantis game "SimCity" or whatever).

but, as suggested above, the idea of customer fatigue could be the incentive. it could work similar to the theme trends. we could get an array of numbers that tells us the popularity of different genres and those numbers go down when we release a game of that genre. those numbers go up when a genre has not been released in a while. so, if you want better scores, you need to watch the market trends (which I assume is the purpose of the theme trends).

anyway, I have started to get creative and came up with my own version of studio specialization. I have a studio dedicated to contracts and a studio (called HQ) dedicated to the administrative employees (HR, Managers, etc).

Trending genres is interesting, really. You might have found a real incentive here
