I know when you buy a new item you can place more of it by holding shift, but if you are moving furniture around in your studio or so and want to place one or few more of what you already have in the studio, you have to go back into the shop find it and select it. With duplication you could press and hold ctrl while clicking a item already placed in your studio, this would duplicate it and you could place another one!
