Sorry this is not an issue but a message just trying to get in touch with the developers of this project. There will be three coordinated session at ScIDataCon 2022. See this page for more info. https://codata.org/initiatives/task-groups/drum/units-summit-recap-meeting/

Hi @stuchalk ! Good luck in getting in touch with the developers of this project. But by chance, I stumbled upon your post and what you are advertising sounds like the community to talk to!

The most recent issues with UO made it clear to me that it needs maintenance at a level a little higher than currently active to be a useful asset to the wider ontology-use community. But units at their core (SI comes to mind) should be fairly immutable, hence w/o the necessity to maintain much if anything. Maybe one of the summit's task groups would be interested in expressing their expertise by proposing a more stable representation of units to the community, say:

  1. a unit-ontology with all the primary or otherwise well established and defined units, 'commonly known' core
  2. and a more-units-ontology with units that might have a discussion attached or are otherwise more elaborate (say keV/micron or meter squared per gram) and more active maintenance by a research group focusing on, say, bio-ontologies.

I think such a split should come from a focused community like units-summit. Much interested in what you think. Also @cmungall

@mwalzer thanks for the comments. I think that you make a good point that there could be a stable 'core' set of defined units (SI brochure units for instance) and then a smaller more dynamic 'community' unit ontology. I will report this at the session and see what the general response is to this.

Hello, I realise this is very late, however I am now establishing active maintenance of this ontology. I am planning to migrate the repo to ODK, so it will be much easier to maintain, and repair much of the high level issues that arise from the creative way that the ontology is currently implemented. Please let me know there's anything I should be aware of to align efforts.

No problem. We are all volunteers, right? Things to let you know about... There is now a project at BIPM to digitalize the SI (https://www.bipm.org/en/committees/ci/cipm/wg/cipm-tg-dsi). This will result at the end of the year with a digital representation of those things define currently in the SI brochure. I have worked on a prototype 'SI Digital Reference' which is at https://siunits.stuchalk.domains.unf.edu/. I am also worked on a project with NIST to create the Units of Measurement Interoperability Service (UMIS) see the prototype at https://umis.stuchalk.domains.unf.edu/. Just a heads up...
