Consider using OBO metadata for ontology resources #336

For OBO ontologies that you have listed (such as GO, HPO, etc), you could automatically pull the metadata for each resource. You can get these data here: https://github.com/OBOFoundry/OBOFoundry.github.io This will provide more updated content, for example recent publications. The ontology developers maintain this source information as part of OBO membership, it will always be the most current.

Please also note the OBO citation policy for the ontologies here: http://www.obofoundry.org/docs/Citation.html We would be grateful if you could promulgate these best practices.

Thanks for this Melissa. It is indeed the intention to pull content from primary sources where it's maintained. As a prerequisite we need the notion of an entry that is read-only in bio.tools, which requires a bit of development. But once we have it we'll implement the pull, giving full credit to OBOFoundry as the source of the metadata. No timeline yet for when this will happen. But it should and will happen once we have the dev capacity.

We'll get to this in due course, but not soon given the dev capacity.
