we were able to get some funding from ELIXIR to pay some work on Bioconda/BioContainers. The following ideas should/could be covered:
Backup all our artifacts (tarballs, packages, containers) to some public archives and establish some mirrors across the globe. This would involve containers, CVMFS, FTP, BitTorrent and some Python scripting.
Annotate our recipes with more metadata (license, doi, EDAM ontology ...) and integrate more tightly with bio.tools.
Automatically build recipes for Python, R ... and devise a way to facilitate keeping them up-to-date. Potentially with a nice web-service as front-end to display certain package-states and that can trigger rebuilds.
Co-organizing training events to teach Conda and Container building.
Other crazy ideas we can come up with :)
This position will be for at least 6 month. My idea would be to organize this as some kind of internship/sabbatical program, if anyone would like to work for 6 month in Freiburg/Germany we could cover the costs from the ELIXIR budget and obviously you would not work alone. Part of this project are a lot of other ELIXIR partners from GB, Spain, Belgium ...
If you have interest to work with us, please get in contact with me.
