There is a big difference between character/states that are unique because they are DIFFERENT than the species being compared and 'unique' because it is simply not present.
I think 3 columns total would be good.
'Unique' : characters that occur on both sides that have different character states
'Un-matched': characters that do not occur on the other side
'all': all characters available for the species.
in Image, torus_shape, is unique on each side, but torus_coloration on the left, should NOT be unique, as that character is not present on the other side. [torus_fixation should be in 'all']
With this we would have in the middle character overlap table only the character states that are exactly the same and disregard a similarity measurement, right?
