Can't connect Win7-64 - Time Out #1

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago

Hi! First thanks for the great work!!! I just tried on two computers both
running Win7 64-bit, and I'm having some trouble connecting Move through
Bluetooth.

The pairing went fine. At first I didn't know that I must put the CL EYE driver
on, but once the driver is installed then it was very smooth.

Then the pairing:

computer 1: Intel 6230n BT 3.0, Windows BT stack. Move can be added, but when
opening "Service" page, it times out before any service can be listed. It seems
Windows BT stack takes a long time to list them.

computer 2: D-Link DBT-120C1, tried both Windows stack and official driver
(which is actually provided by Toshiba, I heard is one of the best). The
Windows stack won't even add the new device before time out. Toshiba stack is
having the same problem.

also a quick question: does this framework also support Move Navigation
controller?

ps: I just started testing PS3 Move.Me (the official way to use Move on
computers), it tracks really well, much less lag and better accuracy than the
few games I've played so far. Tested with two moves connected, packets were
pulled at 60Hz. But I'm still trying to figure out how to read Navi controller
info from it.

Thanks again!

Thanks for your report!
Try to press the PS button just before or after you click the services tab,
than the HID service should appear. Please let me know, if you could manage to
pair. Play around with the PS button and the services tab, maybe you can find
out a better pairing process. Once you have managed to do it, the pairing will
be fast and stable, only the first one is trial.

And there is no Navigation controller support yet, but I can do it if more
people need it. (You can use a navigation controller with the MoveOnPc project.)

Hi Darress,

just to note I too have the same problem on Win7-64. No services appear before
time out so the whole process doesn't work thereafter.

I have 3 Moves and 2 Bluetooth dongles and get the same issue for all of them
on Win7-64. They all work fine (but singularly obviously) with the MotioninJoy
driver and all work together on Mac OSX 10.5 with Thomas Perl's PSMoveAPI. Only
conclusion I can come to therefore is that it is the Bluetooth drivers on Win7.
You test on Win8 only, correct ? Cheers

I tried to add the device in win7 as well, but the discovery didnt even find
the device. I thought it was because I installed a lot of different BT stacks
and utilities... I have no problem with win8, I can pair the devices always at
the first try.
You can use 2 Moves with MiJ with 2 dongles, just you cant get the BT and
calibration information, and you also have to use the poll method instead of
waiting for data.
With the native BT stack you only need a single dongle.
I also heard the method I used worked with win xp.

Hi Darress,

Eventually managed to get a move to pair with Win7-64. I followed the
instructions on the following link (Windows status) and eventually that did the
trick:

http://thp.io/2010/psmove/

It is a painful procedure and took many goes. I first connected via USB and hit
the PS button a couple of times just to be sure, only then did I plug in my
bluetooth dongle. However the trick seems to be to keep hitting the PS button
to keep the bluetooth link alive whilst the drivers load and to hit it again as
soon as you hit 'apply' when you get the HID message box in 'services' ticked.
Also hit the PS button again at the end of the procedure if the red led on the
move is not fully lit.

I have tried the above pairing procedure several times from scratch and it
seems to work.

Once you have paired, as you say, you can simply plug in the dongle and hit PS
button and it works! Calibration worked ok too.

Many thanks, now I can begin work on my app!

Best regards BobL.

Thanks for the helpful hints and the API link !!! It seems I have tried all
these before my posting but with no luck :( especially the one that pressing
the PS button repeatedly, to the point my finger was sore ....

I'm currently out and don't have Move controllers with me, will try again and
report back soon. Probably just need a little luck, hope the new year will
bring to me. And speaking of which,

Happy new year everyone !!!!

simxbob:
The instuctions on Thomas' page is the same as on mine (actually my old
version).
I'm glad you could successfully pair the device, please report your experience
with the framework, so I can improve it!

hyz615:
You can find the link on the homepage of my project too. :)
I hope you'll also manage the pairing. If so, please report how you did it, so
others would have less trouble with it. :)

Happy new year! :):):)

Hi Darress,
thanks for the fantastic work! Sorry for my english.
I have some problem with pairing. I tried on my old PC (Win7 32 bit) with BT
USB adapter Belkin and after a few tries I got the pair.
After I tried on my notebook (Toshiba Satellite A200 Win7 32 bit) with internal
BT but the your calibration tool still requires a BT dongle. Then I disabled
the internal BT and used the same BT USB adapter Belkin. After a full night of
attempts have not been able to make the pair.
The Bluetooth address of BT dongle is already in the Move's memory but the
process stops at step 5 (see your Pairing Connecting Instructions section
"Connecting the paired Moves to your PC for the first time").
Have you checked the connection to a notebook with internal BT?

Thanks for your help.

Silvano.

Hi Silvano,
thank you for your report.
I have'nt tried it with internal BT, but I dont see why it could not work. So
feel free to pair your move to the internal adapter, and than try again to add
the device.
I dont know why in some cases the discovery does not work...
If it's important for you to use the Moves, you could try a windows 8 preview
(that is free), or reinstall your win7. You can also try different dongles.

I'm sorry, I know it is the weak point of my framework, but it is independent
from my framework, so I can't change how it works (or not).

I hope you will be able to get it work! ;)
Please report if you could success, and how you did it.

Hi! everyone,

made some progress today after upgraded to a SSD with fresh installation of Win
7 Pro x64, now I can finally get to the Services tab and check "Device for
keyboard, mice, etc (HID)" and a window pops up saying Bluetooth HID Device
Ready to use. However, the red led on move doesn't light up after the flashing
stops, I tried to quickly start the CalibrationTool, it says No device is
connected via Bluetooth...

It appears to be the problem of BT driver, but with the latest driver I'm using
right now it did fix some minor issues I had with BT headphones, guess still
not good enough.

For those of you that can successfully make this connection in Win 7, did the
flashing turn immediately into constant on right after "Ready to use" window?

thanks!

sweet!!! forget about my previous post, I got it working!!!! had to keep trying
many many times, and for my case I think the trick is the following:

During HID device installation stage, press PS button immediately after led
goes off, just to keep the installation going. Then when that's done, the led
will light up on its own, and don't press PS button any more, or Move goes into
pairing mode again and have to start all over.

now, moving on to next step - seems it's the position tracking is a little
shaky, and a little drifting on the orientation tracking as well, but not a big
deal. on my machine the image freezes up after a few minutes, I'm going over to
the other topic to continue.

Thanks everyone!!! Great work!!!

Hi darress,

This library seems to be exactly what I need for a project, but I can't get my
Move to pair with my Windows 7 64, no matter what I try. Is it possible to use
it with MotionJoy (I know it was in previous versions) - and if so, what do I
need to do?

Thanks and bye,
Ido.

Hi! Ido,

it took me a long time to get it to work, my Dell OEM Win 7 + McAfee just
wouldn't work until I did a fresh installation myself. try follow my tricks
posted here, disable AV/FW see if it can work out.

otherwise go with MotionJoy but you pretty much can't use your Bluetooth
adapter for anything else than connecting with Move. and I hate their GUI full
of ads.

Hi Ido,
The problem with MiJ is that it can't handle 2 Moves and it uses a poll method
that causes packet loss. I wont implement any kind of support for MiJ as long
as it doesnt work properly. You can download my old code from Codeplex though
if you want to play with it but I suggest not to, rather get the native BT
stack work with your Moves. You only have to make it once, after that the Move
will always connect by pressing the PS button. Read the wiki for details.

Regards,
Darress

I DID IT! After several hours trying to get the damn HID check to appear under
the services tab; I think I've finally found the right steps.

When you have your Motion Controller added to bluetooth devices; you have to do
exactly this:

-Right click on the device. Submenú appears. Wait.
-Hit the ps button and, quickly:
-Click properties
-Click services tab

Now the HID check will appear.

You have to press the ps button just BEFORE entering the properties window.

I paired my ps move with 2 different computers and 2 different bt dongles. Win
7 64 & Win 7 32.

I hope this helps!

Thank you for the information I added it to the wiki page.

I installed win8 beta and I can't pair my Moves!!! :D Maybe there are other
tricks for this version. It was easy with the developer preview.

This issue can be solved with MIJ, that is supported since version 3.1.

Hi,

I am using windows 8 64 bit and I successfully managed to get to the step 8
which involves going to the "Services" tab and seeing the checkbox for the HID
service.

When I do step 9, in the device manager I can see a new device under Bluetooth
called motion controller for about 10-15 seconds and then it disappears.

Did anyone encounter problems with windows 8 64 bit?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

sorry I don't have a Win 8 to test. But maybe you could try a different
computer/BT adapter to isolate the problem? In my experience I had to keep
pressing PS button the moment led stops flashing. don't do it when it's still
flashing, and don't do it after pairing either. I recall trying for many times
before succeeded.

good luck!

Hi David,

Thanks for your help,
Managed to pair it with windows 7 using the same BT dongle.
Still no luck with windows 8 though.

Kevin, I got the motion controller working in windows 8.1 64bit, but ONLY by
using MIJ. I ran the controller config tool then, but had to do so WITHOUT the
PS3 EYE as it kept crashing. The motion controller shows up fine in the tool, i
get orientation and calibration tracking fine, but no positional, need the eye
for that....

So now i have the motion controller working perfectly through BT and USB, but,
my problem now is that the Navigation Controller will only work via USB. for
some reason MIJ doesnt recognise it once i disconnect the usb, the device hangs
and become completely unresponsive
