2. no disc in dvd drive.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

opens an error dialog box about no disc in drive e:
why is it accessing drives i haven't asked it to open files on ?

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

I can't reproduce this error (using XP or Win 7), are you sure E: is a DVD
drive? I've only seen this once before and the drive in question is something
removable other than a DVD drive. It was fixed by reassigning or removing the
driver letter for that drive: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307844

Positive when i put a disc in the drive the error doesn't occur. and it doesn't
happen with Sherpya's mplayer builds. But I've narrowed down the problem some
what. I have windows file associations set to run mplayer when double clicking
on media files.
The problem is triggered when double clicking on media files once it occurs
even if i run mplayer directly from the command line it still happens unless i
reboot my computer.

How exactly did you associate file types with mplayer? I tried the "Open with"
method and browsing for mplayer.exe but still wasn't able to reproduce the
error.

I'm getting the same error. Windows 7. It happens when you drag a video file
onto he mplayer.exe file to play it.

You can try the suggestions from here:
http://sheeeng.blogspot.com/2012/03/there-is-no-disk-in-drive-please-insert.html

I am doing whatever I can to reproduce this error but have been unsuccessful.
Maybe it is related to specific hardware configurations. Some resources:

I have this issue with mencoder (I reported in in issue 2).
I compiled mencoder.exe from source, and my mencoder.exe doesn't have this
issue.

Here's the compilation steps I've followed:
1) I downloaded mplayer-mingw-gcc463-01-2013.7z from
http://sourceforge.net/projects/smplayer/files/MinGW/mplayer, extracted it and
configured the MinGW\msys\etc\fstab file
2) I checked out the source from svn and placed it under mplayer-src in my home
dir inside MSYS
3) Run the following commands from within MSYS:
./configure
make mencoder.exe

michele, if you had just compiled it and just got the latest svn from mplayer
then it contained a potential fix (r35713). What revision did you compile? What
about the new r35715 I uploaded?

I cloned the repo at the right moment: I compiled r35715!

Does my latest build solve your issue? Thanks for the feedback.

Sorry, I misunderstood your comment #10.
Yes, the compiled r35715 I just downloaded from
http://code.google.com/p/mplayer-for-windows/downloads/list fixes the problem.
Great!

That is good to hear, I hope jburger2k10 & emargono have the same success.

I'm unable to reproduce the problem on mplayer-svn-35679 build anymore or the
newest mplayer-svn-35715 build. Maybe a Windows update fixed an underlying
problem that was triggering the error?
