Create growth kit #204

Open m52go opened 4 years ago

m52go commented 4 years ago

We need to make it as easy as possible for people to evangelize Bisq without needing hand-holding.

For example: every so often, someone wants to help start a new market or push along an existing one, and they want to make a talk or webinar, so they ask for an example deck they can use as a starting point. This is something not hard to create that should be easily available.

Perhaps market-specific start kits could be created so that a prospective evangelist can see, at a glance:

So that they can quickly pull together a presentation for a meetup (or even just a 1-on-1 huddle with a friend/family showing them the basics of Bisq and how to use it).

If you're interested in helping with this, please say a little about what you have in mind (and for which market).

pazza83 commented 4 years ago

I would be happy to help.

My idea would be to produce an editable slide deck that could be utilized by anyone that wanted to give a presentation about Bisq. This seems to fit in nicely with #203

In the growth call you mentioned the AUD market as being as identified for growth.

I would be happy to use this an an example.

Yes it might even make sense to put press kit and growth kit together to start, since neither will probably be very extensive.

My idea would be to produce an editable slide deck that could be utilized by anyone that wanted to give a presentation about Bisq.

I think that's the perfect place to start. We can build it out over time. There's the recent workshop done at HCPP (deck, video) if you'd like a starting point.

pazza83 commented 4 years ago

Thanks that is great.

I will get started on both of them 👍

Hi @m52go

I have completed a first draft of the template of a Growth Kit / Slide Deck.

Here is a link to the Bisq - Slide Deck Growth Kit Here is a zip Slide deck.zip

The slide deck includes lots of variations of slide designs to enable users to quickly pull together a presentation for a meet up, event, talk, zoom call, etc. The multiple slide options allow for user to quickly choose and edit the slides they want, and delete any they do not require.

This is the first draft so ignore the content for the moment. I just want to give you an idea of what it would look like and get an idea if I am going in the correct direction.

In order to view the presentation correctly (with the correct Bisq fonts) please install the fonts in the assets folder prior to opening the presentation.

Let me know your feedback on the look, feel and formatting.

m52go commented 4 years ago

Nice effort overall. The aesthetics look nice but I probably didn't get the real experience because I couldn't open in PowerPoint (see last paragraph below). To be honest I was thinking this would be a less intensive task, at least to start...I wasn't really expecting such nice graphics, etc. To me it was more about content, i.e. creating a suggested sequence of slides covering the most important topics that a non-contributor could easily customize with region-specific info into a deck to properly introduce Bisq to a bunch of first-time users. There are some slides here that I suppose could work for that purpose, but many are more community focused (e.g., Q4 update).

What I had in mind was basically an extended version of the HCPP deck, since it already covers many of these topics, but leaves out some of the details like region-specific items, trade process, etc. It's okay if that's where you're intending to go, but I'm just wary of cost. How much were you thinking to request for this item?

Side note: would it be possible to make a revision of this deck available in a more cross-platform format? Maybe using something like LibreOffice that runs across Windows, macOS, and Linux...or something online. People are likely to use a range of operating systems. I use Linux and didn't have a way of opening the PowerPoint file. Had to upload to Google Drive, which I'm sure messed with the formatting since some alignments seemed off.

pazza83 commented 4 years ago

Thanks for the feedback.

Here is a copy of the slide deck in an ODP format for Libre Office etc.

Bisq - Slide Deck - v1.zip

Here is a copy of the fonts which I think also need to be installed to view as intended. fonts.zip

All the nice graphics where taken from the existing Bisq Designs repo https://github.com/bisq-network/bisq-design

I have replaced the slides such as Q4 update with place holder text. The idea was to give users a range of options for available slide designs they can easily customized when delivering a presentation.

I have not put in any of growth specific content yet. Let me know if you would like me to use this template to create a growth presentation for the Australian market.

With regards costs I was thinking about $250 USD. The main thing is I would like to create something that can be utilized by Bisq. You are correct that I added in more slide designs for things with a community focus etc, as I thought it would be good to create a slide deck that could have multiple uses.

m52go commented 4 years ago

Would you be willing to do an outline of how you would approach making an AUD presentation? Might be better to discuss an approach before spending time to put it together.

I'm still seeing crashing text on some slides. I recommend just using something cloud-based so it's guaranteed to appear the same on any machine. Would also avoid the hassle of installing fonts.

Cost should be fine as long as we can end up with something like a boilerplate deck an evangelist can customize to help prospective users quickly understand Bisq and how to use it. The extra community-related items you created are cool...just want to make sure we achieve the original overall goal too.

pazza83 commented 4 years ago

Thanks again, for an outline of the AUD presentation I would use the following slides:

The presentation above would last about 40 mins in total (not including Q&A).

Content wise I do not think there needs to be much written. The slides are there just to anchor the presenter to the particular topics.

Yes, I can do a cloud version. It would make accessibility easier. It would however negatively impact the look / feel as online presentations will restrict fonts used. For cloud presentation I would not be able to use the Bisq font assets (The Bisq font is 'IBM Plex Sans' I would use the most similar font instead). I could try and make it work but users would be required to run an extension in the browser which would decrease usability.

Have you an idea of platform. Google Slides will be familiar with everyone, but not sure of the privacy concerns of using a Google product?

Will the login for the online platform be shared with all presenters? Or would you like it an something like google where it can be shared. Ie you have a master account. Copy the AUD presentation, share it with another user, and they fill in the Info for the EUR presentation?

The crashing is probably as I animated some text on MS Powerpoint and it did not convert well to Libre ODP format.

m52go commented 4 years ago

for an outline of the AUD presentation I would use the following slides:

Looks good. What do you think about including a brief technical overview slide before the video? Cover just the basics like why it's desktop software, Tor, local wallet, why you need bitcoin to make/take offers, etc...so that what happens on the video is more clear (unless you were already planning to cover that in one of the previous slides).

Have you an idea of platform

Google would be ideal for functionality. Like you said, it's not ideal for privacy, but this deck will be a public resource anyway so I'm not sure it matters. Unless you're concerned about having a Bisq item on your Google account, could maybe consider creating another anonymous Google account (?). I'd love to use an alternative to Google Slides myself but couldn't ever find a worthy one. Happy to use any alternatives that make sense..

I believe IBM Plex is built into Google Slides (or can be added easily) as it's in the Google Font collection.

Copy the AUD presentation, share it with another user, and they fill in the Info for the EUR presentation?

Yeah I think keeping it public so anyone could copy it to their own drive and edit it would be ideal. In that case it doesn't matter much who creates the presentation, as long as the permissions are set correctly.

pazza83 commented 4 years ago

Thanks for all the feedback.

I will include your ideas about a technical overview in a new slide.

Yes, I think Google is the way to go for the moment. You are correct about the font it all looks good when imported.

I am looking to get this complete for a review by the end of the week.

I am waiting for the video I requested from you on Keybase before i can complete all the content.

Let me know your feedback.

m52go commented 3 years ago

Hi @pazza83, nice - some questions and feedback:

pazza83 commented 3 years ago

Thanks for the feedback

  • how can one edit the world map on slide 14 to highlight other countries?

This was done in photoshop. I was going to suggest once you are happy with the growth kit I could make one for each main market. Alternatively the map could just be deleted.

  • the what is bisq section is nice, but what do you think about adding some kind of compare/contrast table with other bitcoin exchanges? might help put bisq in perspective for n00bs with no frame of reference.

No problems, do you have a link to any content you would like included for this or would you like me to produce some. It would link nicely with https://github.com/bisq-network/growth/issues/201 oncethis has been completed.

  • slides 15-18 have a lot of text on them. is this placeholder and meant to be replaced?

This text was taken from a recent Bisq presentation. I just took the text to use in the slide design, I did not change any text. I imagine the process of setting up Bisq would remain constant. It can be edited easily.

  • are slides 19 and 21 meant to link to the same video?

19,20 and 21 will be completed once the correct video is in place. The video there currently is just a placeholder. 19 will describe the process prior to the video, 20 will be the video, 21 will summarise what happened in the video.

  • slide 29 on creating offers: why is this slide needed? seems out-of-place.

It can be removed easily. My idea was to have a slide showing how someone could make an offer. This seemed to fit logically after seeing what current offers where available. Offer book > Buy BTC > Make and offer to buy BTC

No problems. I did think of making them clickable but designed for presentation rather than screen.

  • consider adding "https://" to "Visit:" in slide footer

No problems. This is a quick change.

  • slides 33-34: consolidate these slides? they seem repetitive. would also recommend adding context to each link (e.g. github is for contributing, wiki is for documentation, etc)

They are presenting different information. 33 is social links. 34 is useful links for people to read up about Bisq. Both are easy to edit. For example 33 could always be used, but 34 can change depending on presentation topic. Either or both can be included or deleted.

might be personal thing but i think slide 6 throws too much at the viewer at once...i would prefer a more gradual, segmented introduction to each fundamental concept (privacy, security, freedom).

No problems, I can remove it? or put it later in the presentation?

pazza83 commented 3 years ago

Hi @m52go

I have made the following changes:

Let me know what you would like to do with the content and what slides you would like removed.

Going to add in a comparison slide now.

pazza83 commented 3 years ago

Hi @m52go

The growth kit is now complete.

Please see the 'Using Bisq in Australia' Google Sheet.

It is located within the public folder https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1BUnDcgnDuOpVhE_ritysdmIVH6yKzfOQ

Following changes have been made:

Let me know if you would like any changes / additions.

m52go commented 3 years ago

Wonderful -- overall I think it's great. Two small things:

Also I really like the slides after the demo video with the timestamps.

pazza83 commented 3 years ago

Thanks for the feedback.

I have made all the changes above.

Thanks for the comments on the timestamps. I think those slides were helpful to breakdown the trade process.

If you need anything else just let me know.
