Creating a German-only Bisq account on Twitter to reach the growing German-speaking audience #249

Learning Goal/Objective

As I have already stated on Keybase, I want to initiate the creation of a German-only Bisq Twitter account. There are around 130 Million German-speaking people out there and as we all know, the SEPA markets are one of the biggest on Bisq.

The goal of this project is to gain more attention from German-speaking Bitcoiners. The spanish account sets an example for a successfull local Bisq account, interacting with users and ensuring engagement.

Hypothesis

Due to the fact that the European Union wants to "make Bitcoin traceable and ban anonymous crypto wallets in anti-money laundering drive", Bisq can become a very important and useful application for EU-inhabitants. Trade offers for sells and buys are already quiet stable, newly created offers (with acceptable %-deviations) are getting accepted pretty fast.

Furthermore there is a rapidly growing German-speaking Bitcoin community - and I am not talking about interest for Shitcoins:

I also want to mention the ongoing problems with long-known exchanges like Bitpanda (based in Austria) due to AML5 laws. Bitpanda and other european exchanges are shutting down accounts, locking up funds, wanting you to verify the ownership of BTC wallets (via screenshots, lol) and asking for the origin of your funds.

Experiment Design

Through consistent contribution, entertaining content and useful tweets it is definitely possible to build a loyal follower base which results in more trading activity.

Resource Estimation and Probability

Of course I'd be happy if someone joins my project as I won't have the time to be active 24/7. However, I definitely have the capacity for a few tweets per week + retweets like simple translations of the main Bisq account. We shouldn't spam on this account, partnerships with Shitcoiners are prohibited and useless arguments should be avoided. It's for informational purposes only: Answering questions, providing value and updating about Bisq.

I'd be happy to do this voluntary and also pay the costs for the phone number you need for Twitter (just a few bucks). I'll also sponsor a few raffles here and there but of course it would be highly appreciated if the DAO can provide a small marketing budget for raffles and sponsorships.

Sponsorships I can think of:

Results

I'll definitely do some reporting on the growth of the newly created Twitter account. Useful KPIs can be Engagement as likes, replies & retweets and growing follower numbers. To give you an overview on what's going on, once per month should be enough.

Metrics can also be DE & AT trading activities (although I think this is not that meaningful).

Learnings

TBD

Action Items

TBD

Additional suggestion

If you agree that this project should be launched, I'd suggest that I bond 300 BSQ (for obvious reasons). As soon as I cede the control over the account, I'll receive the funds back. I think it is also fair to say that anyone who joins this project (and gets access to the account), also bonds 300 BSQ.

Germany has the most reachable Bitcoin nodes too! https://bitnodes.io/ https://old.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/plxl2r/germany_overtakes_the_usa_in_the_number_of/

Great idea. Would be good to increase the accessibility of Bisq to German speakers.

@stopfeds thanks for the thorough issue. German translations of the website and software have been maintained quite well, in part thanks to your work.

German language users are certainly a priority. We had emzy do a workshop at the Zitadelle event you mentioned, and we have an ongoing partnership with @thecoinspondent for a German-language writing contest they put on this year (which includes an upcoming workshop as well as branding and mentions across their podcast and social channels).

Your efforts to extend these initiatives with an active German-language Twitter account would be great. Perhaps we could start to organize efforts and collectively brainstorm ideas for social/community engagement across languages.

I'm not sure bonding is necessary to start...the account will start small and require a ton of work to get it anywhere, which in itself is kind of a bond. But you're welcome to bond anyway if you prefer. I can see the DAO approving some paid placements and raffle-type things, but I don't want to broadly accept all proposals here and now. There can be some budget directed toward them, but such things should be approved on a case-by-case basis.

We can get you added to the community managers group, so that you can report progress every cycle.

I hope that answers the concerns you mentioned so far. Any other questions, or anything else we do to help you feel comfortable and get started?

Great to hear that you like my first ideas and thank you for the feedback & input.

For now everything clear, thanks. I think the best thing would be to just getting started and see what content works out well. I have a Marketing background so I already have a few tweets in mind.

Would be also great if you can add me to the community managers group!

Sounds good...go for it! We'll get you added to the group before the next reporting period.

After a few initial problems (instant ban after the first tweet, lol) I wanted to build a timeline with a few tweets. The account is now officially live: https://twitter.com/BisqDe

It's incredible how they ban legit accounts while have thousands of "Elon will double your BTC" accounts.

@stopfeds your latest tweet looks really scammy...to me it doesn't come off well at all.

This is a classic "you can't have nice things". All giveaways have been made toxic by bad actors on youtube and twitter. I am of the opinion that the tweet is ok; as a rational human being I think I can distinguish between good intentions and bad, but I understand not everyone can do that and people tend to knee-jerk reactions (I don't mean you @m52go, just people in general). Just wanted to speak up in favor of @stopfeds honorable intentions. Whatever the community thinks tho..

@m52go - remove face mask. Maybe Dorsey has a cancel and ban position for you at twshitter garbage service.

m52go commented 2 years ago

Another core contributor sent me the link so I'm not the only one with concerns. Maybe the same thing could have been done in a different way, e.g. emphasize "50% off trading fees" instead of "BSQ giveaway". Not sure.

@stopfeds if there's any way to survey your new followers to see what their experience is and/or what they're trading, etc., that could be helpful. In my opinion, attracting just a few repeat users would be way more preferable than attracting 50 one-time users looking to flip an airdrop for a few sats. Currently the only way to know this information is to talk directly to users.

Hey @m52go & @jmacxx & @clearwater-trust, Thanks for the feedback. Maybe I should have asked here before tweeting, you are right. Now it is too late and we can't go back. Luckily there were no concerns or negative comments about BSQ. I also linked the website explaining the DAO & a good Blocktrainer article. I'll consider this for next time. Sorry.
