@flix1, I've added you to the @bisq-network/youtube-admins team (and assigned you to this role to reflect). This means you have write access to this repository, and can therefore now apply the $BSQ bounty label to its issues on your own, as well as reprioritize them and move them across columns via ZenHub.

For the record, I have not granted @flix1 access to the YouTube channel, just to this GitHub repo for issue-management purposes.

2018.01 report

Generally, this infrastructure seems to be working. Would be great to have someone take it over from me. There's nothing special I'm adding to it by doing it personally now that it's all set up, and I'm sure someone else could easily do a better job. Let me know if you're up for that.

2018.02 report

@ripcurlx set up the live streams this month, and did follow-up work on several of them, adding in-video links, title cards, etc. For this reason, I've assigned him here as he is in every way a de-facto admin with full rights to the channel and doing most of the heavy lifting there.

@ripcurlx, would you be willing to own this role in a primary way going forward? To continue being responsible for setting up live streams, running the shows, doing these monthly reports, and anything else you see fit (including delegating any and all of that to others down the road)?

/cc bisq-network/compensation#40

ripcurlx commented 6 years ago

@cbeams You have mind reading capabilities 😉. I wanted to suggest it today as well, that I would be fine taking this role until someone else wants to take it over.

cbeams commented 6 years ago

@ripcurlx, great to see the stats above, thanks. A couple minor things:

cbeams commented 6 years ago

I updated the description of this issue to distinguish @ripcurlx as the primary role owner and myself (@cbeams) as secondary, per bisq-network/proposals#12.

dsbeasley commented 6 years ago

@ripcurlx any help you need regarding YouTube, feel free to let me know.

cbeams commented 6 years ago

@ripcurlx any help you need regarding YouTube, feel free to let me know.

Hey @dsbeasley, what would you think about being on point to upload and curate / categorize videos?

So far, we've mainly done a few kinds of videos on YouTube:

  1. Live streams
  2. Uploaded recordings of Zoom calls
  3. How-to videos and tutorials

These get categorized into our different playlists:

image

What I have in mind with "uploading and categorizing", then, would start with one simple and concrete task: be on point in Slack to upload Zoom calls that we record.

For example, there are right now two videos at https://bisq.slack.com/archives/C8MU98VSL/p1523894181000246 that @ManfredKarrer uploaded after a call with @blabno a couple days ago. They need to be merged into one video and uploaded to YouTube under the meetings and calls playlist.

The faster we get these up, the better, and we don't want to leave them in Slack, because (a) they're harder to discover there and (b) our free Slack plan has a 10,000-message history limit that means we lose these videos if we don't publish them elsewhere.

We'd need to grant you write / manager access to our YouTube channel; that shouldn't be a problem and I believe @ripcurlx can handle it.

This would be super helpful for everybody, I think, and could encourage more quick recorded conversations, because people know they can just drop the recordings in Slack, @mention you and rest assured that you'll do the right thing with the video when you have a moment, let's say within 24 hours.

Does this sound interesting to you? Activities could expand from there however it makes sense, but this could be a clearly defined responsibility to get things started.

ripcurlx commented 6 years ago

Yes, that would be of great help! Maybe we could also think about adding custom thumbnails for our videos to increase the click rate. @dsbeasley just let me know if I should grant you access to the YouTube channel.

ripcurlx commented 6 years ago

Also answering comments on our videos within the YouTube studio would be great support.

cbeams commented 6 years ago

Following up on the comments above, I've just assigned @dsbeasley and updated the description to reflect that he will now be playing a supporting role around YouTube. For a start, @dsbeasley will be available for uploading and categorizing Zoom video calls that we record and upload to Slack.

So, @bisq-network/contributors, if you do a Zoom call and post it to Slack, please @mention @dsbeasley and ask him to upload your video to our YouTube channel.

Note that for Zoom calls that go over the 45 minute limit and result in multiple recordings, @dsbeasley will also merge those fragments into a single mp4 file.

We've agreed that after being mentioned with a request in Slack, @dsbeasley will get videos uploaded and categorized within 24 hours.

Again, this is just a specific task to get things rolling with, and I'm sure that the set of responsibilities can expand in any number of directions from here. Please feel free to suggest other ways you can add value as you find them, @dsbeasley.

Finally, @dsbeasley, please do a quick monthly report comment here on this issue, as described in https://github.com/bisq-network/proposals/issues/13. You can include whatever information you think is relevant, like how many videos you uploaded, etc, and then link to that comment from your monthly compensation request. Thanks!

P.S. @dsbeasley, please also update your Slack notification settings in the #youtube channel, such that you get notified about all activity (not just @mentions), and also please click the "Watch" button on the https://github.com/bisq-network/youtube repository. This will ensure that you are aware of all activity, questions, etc around our YouTube infrastructure.

To increase subscribers and view time we should make sure this month that we add the subscribe end card and suggested next videos to watch to each video. Also we could think about creating a general like & subscribe outro for all our uploaded videos.

our top video this month was What is Bisq? with a total watch time of 3,145 minutes.

It's pretty predictable this will continue being the top-watched video, as this is the explainer video on the homepage of https://bisq.network. This video was just migrated to YouTube from Vimeo a little over a month ago, so that's why it's suddenly showing up. We might want to assume it's going to have the top ranking and consider which other 2nd and 3rd place videos are performing well, even though they'll probably always be in the shadow of that video.

Yes but you need more than 800 subscribers in order to do so.

Given that Cash App has been removed as a payment method since may 13th, isn't this video presence a bit disturbing ? Just a question.

ripcurlx commented 5 years ago

@HarryMacfinned Yes, I guess it is because of the "How to buy BTC for USD... " in the title that generates this number of views. Would be great to have a video with a payment method that still is available on Bisq 😉

cbeams commented 5 years ago

I've updated the description of this issue for accuracy, and removed @dsbeasley as he became unresponsive to requests months ago (he's been removed not just as an assignee but also from having any permissions with the YouTube channel). I've also removed myself and @ManfredKarrer as assignees and members of the @bisq-network/youtube-admins team, because while we do technically have owner rights over Bisq's larger Google Brand account, we don't actively administer the YouTube channel at all. @ripcurlx remains primary and @flix1 remains as a secondary. Thanks, all.

2019.01 Report

We had a net gain of 56 new subscribers this month. Growth calls generally did quite well this month, with the 3 January call getting 1,850 watch minutes this month.

I revamped the YouTube channel landing page and profile to optimize it for engagement going forward.

I did this according to advice from some YouTube veterans. Other advice I picked up that we might want to consider:

@ripcurlx maybe some interesting tidbits for us to keep in mind above.

Yes, we could do lots of additional video cards after the call. I linked videos in some videos when I started the calls, but just got a little bit lazy as it tooks some time. I think there is also the possibility to add cards during live calls. Maybe that is also something we could try out some time.
