[enhancement] root config: default excluded folders #212

Closed Germar closed 9 years ago

Germar commented 9 years ago

In reference to a discussion about default exclusions... https://bugs.launchpad.net/backintime/+bug/422132

Here are some folders it might be useful to exclude by default in a root config.

/var/tmp/ /dev/ /tmp/ /var/cache/ /proc/

Imported from Launchpad using lp2gh.

(by arpaxtra) is /var/cache/ covered by the existing [Cc]ache* exclude rule?

Germar commented 9 years ago

(by danleweb) yes, normaly /var/cache is covered by [Cc]ache*,

Germar commented 9 years ago

(by swid) Did you forget /sys ?

Germar commented 9 years ago

(by ceg) Assuming exclusions that lie outside of the directory that should be backed up do no harm, just add these system dirs to the default exclusion list (Bug #692359).

(by sirkingchase) I am executing backintime as root for the first time on a new server, my system hangs when backing up "/proc"

quick google searched returned http://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=7004153

Needless to say there is no reason to back up "/proc" and it should be excluded by default as it is virtual.

This was not a problem on old server so I do not know if it was previously excluded or what.

(by germar) Those folders are in default exclude now
