It does not work for me (windows 10 64 bit). Nothing happens after opening Simple DNSCrypt (¿?)
Does the application not start?
After opening, you need to click on the Primary DNSCrypt Resolver "switch control", this will install the windows service. And then just click on your network cards you want to use DNSCrypt.
The application not start. I think It could be a .NET installation problem (¿?)
So .NET 4.5 is installed?
Did you use the installer (msi)?
I think .NET 4.5 is installed because of I use "dnscrypt-winclient" without problems.
I use the installer (msi)
dnscrypt-winclient targets .NET 2.0
So there is no error? Did you run it as administrator?
There is no error. The application not start. Nothing happens. Yes. I have tried to run it as administrator.
Maybe you should try to uninstall dnscrypt-proxy first.
So go to your old dnscrypt-proxy installation directory and run: dnscrypt-proxy.exe --uninstall This should clean up the registry and remove the old windows service.
After this, try again to start Simple DNSCrypt.
I opened dnscrypt-winclient.exe before opening Simple DNSCrypt and I click on uninstall option. After It I opened Microsoft Edge and I have not access to Internet because of dnscrypt-proxy does not work. I change my DNS Server from 127.0.0.1 to Obtain It automatically for my Internet connection. I opened Microsoft Edge and I have access to Internet. After all I start Simple DNSCrypt and nothing happens. Same problem.
Do have VS2013 or VS2015 to run it from source?
I think that I have not VS2013 or VS2015 to do It.
After uninstalling the old service, can you check the existing of the registry entry (should not exist):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\dnscrypt-proxy
OK. I will try It.
I have check the existing of the registry entry and It does not exist. After It I have tried to install and run Simple DNSCrypt and the application not start and nothing happens.
Hmm, maybe your Antivirus is blocking something? Sandbox? Can you try to deactivate it for some minutes?
I have installed Avast Internet Security 2015. OK. I will try It.
I deactivate it and same problem with Simple DNSCrypt.
I have running Windows Firewall, Maybe It ?
I have installed Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit Free ...
Is there anything in the Application log in the Event Viewer?
One problem opening "Cortana" ... I do not know what I am looking for.
oh sorry "cortana" i just read costura :O
First of, thanks for the app, will be of great use. However, it's not working (either, apparently.) on Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
I did turn off the original service, turned AV off, everything, but the app just doesn't work. (Throws a werfault at my face.)
i will check this, thanks for reporting
Hey, can you two download and unzip this: https://bitbeans.de/SimpleDnsCrypt_debug.zip replace the SimpleDnsCrypt.exe in:
C:\Program Files (x86)\bitbeans\Simple DNSCrypt
This should catch any error on startup and bring up a MessageBox (hopefully) (There could be a warning, because it`s not signed)
Well now that I replaced, the application started working. I'm going to try and report on any errors, thanks for the update.
really? and no error? can "re-download" it again? :)
Ok. I will try It.
An error message appear. I will send It to you (bibeans) attached as a JPG image at one email.
@bitbeans I confirm on my end. I redownloaded the old version (Both from the website and the repo.), crashes upon launching. Downloading the link you sent earlier opens the app, and I'm able to use it without problems.
Two little notes though, probably just unfinished features but I still want to list them:
@gnavascues i have not received an email yet. @g11229418 the second resolver is not yet supported, i`am waiting for a pending dnscrypt-proxy update, it is already in work.
Ok. Excuse me. I sent a reply to the last email I received from here. I attach the error image here now.
Alright, a few more things I noticed. (Still on Window 7 x64)
Really good - thanks. One helpful thing for the future would be an ability to be able to unmark/hide and reorder entries to the resolvers list. For example, I prefer not to use Cisco resolvers, and it would be great not to have them (or whichever resolvers one chooses) not visible.
Thanks for the work!
I have the same issue running Windows 10 64bit as a VM in VMware Fusion7. As a reference, attached is the debug output from the MessageBox.
thanks for reporting this, is the error only come up in the VM?
Yes, the error shows up as soon as I try to run it as administrator in the VM.
Not working on Windows 7 x64 SP1.
After enabling DNSCrypt on the LAN the primary DNSCrypt service won't enable (slider remains in the off position). Running as administrator does not fix the issue.
I was able to resolve this issue. I had used the non-GUI version of DNSCrypt before I found this software to manage it for me. I uninstalled it, however, for whatever reason it didn't completely uninstall.
I redownloaded the DNSCrypt-Proxy and executed:
dnscrypt-proxy.exe --unistall
then repaired the Simple DNSCrypt software from the MSI. Everything worked fine after that.
Thanks for reporting this.
Same happens to me, i installed the latest .msi but when i click on it, it does nothing, doesn't open.
If i replace your SimpleDnsCrypt.exe in the installation directory, it shows this:
Windows 10 Pro x64 Any help?
Windows 7 x64, works fine for both install and running.
Is anybody of the affected people able to compile/debug from source? I can`t reproduce the error on my W10 test system... :(
I’ll give it a try this evening. Anton

bitbeans, i found the problem.
I needed to download this: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26999 - the x86 version, x64 did nothing.
As soon as you install "vcredist_x86" the program will open without any problem.
Btw, are we able to use Unbound with your program? Do you recommend it?
@verlain3 Your solution worked for me. I previously installed vcredist_x64 instead of the x86 version. @bitbeans
Running Windows 10 64bit on VMWare
Thank you, for testing!

0.2.7 version install and running ok. I noticed that I have to change my DNS Server to 127.0.0.1 (for IPv4) manually but the application starts fine and I can use It.
Thank you for all.
please fix the display application size is too large option service often does not arise because of the size of the application is too large
Application size is fine. What is your screen resolution?
good question :)
Tested on:
