update text in choosing a hardware wallet guidance to reflect that various hdwe "wallets" now have QR code reading function #4192

On this page: https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet?step=1

In the section on hardware wallets (about mid-way down the page), the first of 2 'disadvantages of HWWs, compared to several other wallet types, is said to be "Difficult to use while mobile; not designed for scanning QR codes".

That may have been true as recently as a few years ago, but is definitely NOT the case in April 2024. I know for sure that (in no particular order) Jade, Seedsigner, Coinkite's new 'Q' model, & iCoin "wallets" ALL have cameras for QR code reading. & there are probably others as well.

I hope you all can get that text revised to reflect that QR code reading is available on at least some of the major hardware "wallets". IF i knew how to make a PR - and get it acted on - i'd try to do it myself.

(I'm an owner/user of 3 of the hardware devices listed above, but i have no commercial, nor any other interest in or with those organizations, besides being an owner/ user of their product.)

Thanks,

Thanks for your observation. I agree. I actually was concerned about that statement even when it was fresh. Do you have a alternative suggestion to either reword that line or present a different negative? It looks like that page tries to present two pros and two cons for each category.

You can present a suggestion here and perhaps someone will write a PR for you. Alternatively if you are technically inclined and perhaps have some experience with git you can submit your own PR. A step by step guide for dealing with this repository is here.

Thanks for the feedback, Craig! I will (soon, probably this weekend) come up w/ some revised wording to offer. I WANT to develop at least basic proficiency in Git, but have not done so yet. Thanks also for the Git guidance link, which i'll visit also, to work on my competency there.

"All economic activity requires ... a degree of trust between cooperating strangers. Since money is the agent of such mutual trust, debasing money implies debasing the trust upon which social cohesion rests."

Dylan Grice, “The Loss Of Trust &The Great Disorder”, Cobden Centre, Oct. 2012

“I don’t believe we shall ever have a good money again, before we take the thing out of the hands of government. [...] all we can do is by some sly roundabout way introduce something that they can’t stop.” [BITCOIN?] F. A. Hayek, 1984 Twtr/adam3us/status/1151447686375194624

"Civilization is a race between education [understanding] and catastrophe"

Inflation also creates phantom “capital gains”. Those unreal ‘gains’ are TAXED – yet another, even less-known, way that government steals by inflation! – ww

“‘Emergencies’ have always been the pretext on which the safeguards of individual liberty have been eroded.” – F.A. Hayek

"War is the health of the State" Randolph Bourne, 1918(?)

"Most of the evil in this world is done by people with good intentions." T. S. Eliot

“By a continuing process of inflation, Governments can confiscate, secretly and unobserved, an important part of the wealth of their citizens. [...] The process engages all the hidden forces of economic law on the side of destruction, and does it in a manner which not one man in a million is able to diagnose.” John Maynard Keynes, 1921

"The more numerous the laws, the more corrupt the state" (the gov't) Tacitus, Annals, Book III

The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to obey (a more valid rephrasing of Edmund Burke's well-known quote)

"A government that is big enough to give you all you want is big enough to take it all away.” Barry Goldwater

"The people who CAST the votes decide nothing. The people who COUNT the votes decide everything." Joseph Stalin [everything that can be decided by an election]
