It's not required if you build from the official source release

I have built from the latest release branch. Isn't it the official source?

The official source release is bitcoin-27.1.knots20240801.tar.gz which has the icons pre-rendered and configure script. Building from git is fine (though pay attention to the signed git tag), but does have additional dependencies that aren't normally needed.
