There was a mismatch of gradle versions in the project and the used versions were all outdated.

Upgraded to Gradle 7
Upgraded to Bitmovin Player 3.39.0
Upgraded targetSdkVersion to 33
Make gradle files and dependencies a bit more maintainable by pulling them into central places
