Charts Syncer v2: What’s Coming?

Hello everyone,

We are currently working on a new major version of charts-syncer. This update will bring significant improvements to the tool, aimed at enhancing your experience with it.

Why the change? While the original charts-syncer relied on relok8s, the new charts-syncer v2 will be based on dt. This will allow us to bring you some features that were missing from the original tool.

What will be better?

Sync signatures and metadata: With charts-syncer v2 you’ll be able to sync not only images but also their signatures and metadata. Tanzu Application Catalog provides metadata in OCI format (SBOM, VEX files, test results…) and you will be able to sync it using v2.
Choose platforms: You will be able to pick which platforms you want to sync, no need to sync all the container images platforms if you only need linux/arm64 images!
Airgap compatibility: This new version will allow you to easily download all your charts, images and metadata to your local filesystem and later restore them into a target registry of your choice.

What will change?

Limited targets: charts-syncer v2 will only support syncing to OCI registries and local filesystems. While tgz repositories like Helm and ChartMuseum will still be valid sources, targets will be restricted to OCI and local.
