Hi,

Yesterday I wanted to view my wallet. Since it did'nt work on my old PC, I copied the message to my new PC. To see my wallet I had to make a new phrase. Now the Copay progam returns an error. Did I lose my Bitcoins?

Sincerely, Freddy Barbry.

JDonadio commented 6 years ago

Hi @Jerom1302,

The 12 words (recovery phrase) is your private key. If for some reason your app is not available, you can use any other platform. To get access to your funds, you must import your private key, no create a new one.

Jerom1302 commented 6 years ago

Hi, It is all difficult to me. I had a working phrase, let's say "ABC". Now I have an other, not working phrase, let's say "XYZ". Can I import the working phrase with the CoPay program?

Sincerely, Freddy Barbry.

Gamboster commented 6 years ago

Hello @Jerom1302, Yes you can import them using Copay. Try this: 1) Go to your copay app 2) Look at the Wallets card and click on "+" 3) Click on "Import wallet" 4) Write your old (working "ABC") phrase. 5) If your private key is correct. You should be able to Import your wallet with all your respective funds

Jerom1302 commented 6 years ago

Hi,

Thanks for the clear explanation, but I get an error: “Wallet already in Copay”.

I don’t understand “5. If your private key is correct. You should be able to Import your wallet with all your respective funds”

Sincerely,

Freddy Barbry.

but I get an error: “Wallet already in Copay”.

If you get that message, it is because your wallet has already been imported. So I assume that's the one you created recently without funds.

To get the wallet that does have funds, you have to write the 12 words of the old wallet, which did have funds. If you do not have a backup of this wallet, unfortunately you will not be able to recover the BTC in it.

I don’t understand “5. If your private key is correct. You should be able to Import your wallet with all your respective funds”

The 12 words (recovery phrase) is your private key. If you write them in the correct way, you must see your wallet with all your funds

Jerom1302 commented 6 years ago

Hi,

The problem is: I have a new wallet ID.

When I go to view my new wallet ID, I see no BTC’s, see attachment.

Sincerely,

Freddy Barbry.

When I go to view my new wallet ID, I see no BTC’s, see attachment.

That's because you don't have BTC in your new wallet.

To recover funds that you have in another wallet, you have to import that one with his corresponding 12 words. If you do not have a backup, then you won't see the funds.

Compare it with real life. If you have a wallet with $ 10 and you lose it, then you lose the $ 10.

If you buy a new wallet, you will not have those $ 10

To recover those $ 10, you must find your old wallet. (Now in bitcoin, to find your old wallet, you need the 12 words corresponding to that old wallet)

Hi,

In the attachment you will see what happens when I start Copay.

When I click the arrow beside "Received", I get this:

After a while, I have the error:

I hope this will show you what happened.

Sincerely,
