This fixes pivotal 48393903. It's tested but I'd suggest not merging it until we hear back from the customer in case this does not address his problem.

I have tested this myself(same bug), when displaying currency in Bitcoin bitpay would not handle it properly. I applied this branch and it fixed the issue.. this pull request should be merged into the master branch.
