Menu bar items not showing when opening the desktop app on macOS #3985

Open sevesalm opened 1 year ago

sevesalm commented 1 year ago

Steps To Reproduce

  1. Install (from App Store) and login to desktop app.
  2. Enable "Close to menu bar" and "Show menu bar icon" in the preferences.
  3. Close the app using the red cross in the Bitwarden window.
  4. Open the app either via Spotlight or from Application folder by double clicking.

Expected Result

The Bitwarden top bar menu items should be visible and clickable as well as the Dock icon.

Actual Result

The menu bar items are NOT visible but shows whatever menu items you had before opening Bitwarden - like Finder. Also, the Bitwarden app icon is not shown in the macOS Dock.

Note. the menu bar and the Dock icon work 100% correctly if in step 3 Bitwarden is opened from the top menu bar Bitwarden icon instead (if "Show menu bar icon" is enabled). Then the Bitwarden menu items are then visible and work, and the app icon is shown in the Dock.

Screenshots or Videos

The image shows the macOS top menu bar and the portion of the open and active Bitwarden desktop app. Even with the app active, the menu shows Finder menu items.

Unclear what the root problem is, but I was able to resolve it by removing the Bitwarden folder from /Users/name/Library/Application Support/

Tested on the 2022.11.0 release. I'll report back if the issue pops up again.

Seeing the same issues here. Disabling all of the menu bar options resolves it, but isn't ideal obviously.

This is still an issue with version 2023.12.1 on Sonoma 14.2.1. Any news on when this will be fixed @Krychaz?
