Bitwarden is very slow to autofill with a website with hundreds of username #4330

Steps To Reproduce

I have one website that has more than 100 credentials saved. Bitwarden usually loads fine and auto-fill works instantly in the previous version. After the last update, it takes several seconds for Bitwarden to auto-fill or to do search in the search column when in this particular website only.

Expected Result

Instant auto-fill when I click 'auto-fill'

Actual Result

The add-on takes several seconds to fill it out.

Would love to attach a screen record but so hard because I need to blur some parts of the screen that shows sensitive info.

Additional Context

The site is a site for online library. It has a main portal and each libraries has their own sites which has the same address, only the beginning is different. (Main portal is: Overdrive.com; individual library i.e: lapl.overdrive.com, nypl.overdrive.com, and so on)

Hi there!

Thank you for reaching out to Bitwarden Support. It seems like after some recent changes, the extension item search gets very slow if a large number of items matches a single URI.

As a workaround until a fix gets released, you could delete only the URI string for those items (either manually or using our CLI tool), and then search for the entry (https://bitwarden.com/help/searching-vault/#full-text-search) and use the autofill button for this particular site (https://bitwarden.com/help/auto-fill-browser/#manually-auto-fill).

Thanks for responding. Some questions:

  1. Is there a consequences if I don't have the URI string for these items?
  2. Is this on Bitwarden's agenda to fix? Cos if it's too much hassle with deleting URI string, I will just wait for a fix instead.

2. Is this on Bitwarden's agenda to fix? The issue has been notified to the engineering team. Unfortunately, I can't provide you an ETA for its resolution.
