Windows Store release does lot load on Login #5486

Open Jademalo opened 1 year ago

Jademalo commented 1 year ago

Steps To Reproduce

  1. Install Bitwarden through the Windows Store
  2. In settings, enable "Start Automatically on Login"
  3. Restart the PC, and log in

I have the following settings enabled;

Expected Result

When I log into the PC, the application should load and I should be prompted to unlock the database

Actual Result

The software does not start with windows, and I need to manually execute it. In addition, it will load to the system tray without prompting me to unlock the database. If I double click on the icon to open the window, it will also not prompt me to unlock with Windows Hello and I will have to manually click the button.

Hi @Jademalo,

Thank you for your report. I tested this matter with our Microsoft Store release of the Windows Desktop client, and the application is not starting up when the system boots and requires manual action to prompt for Windows Hello when opened from the Tray; I have flagged this to our engineering team.

With regard to "When I log into the PC, the application should load and I should be prompted to unlock the database", our Desktop client on Windows would not prompt for Windows Hello whilst it's hidden in the tray; Please refer to this thread (https://github.com/bitwarden/desktop/issues/978) for more information.

If you wish to add any further information/screenshots/recordings etc., please feel free to do so at any time - our engineering team will be happy to review these.

Thank you again,

Alright fantastic, thank you!

To clarify that point slightly, I was expecting behaviour similar to something like KeePassXC, where on login it opens the window and prompts to unlock. Once unlocked, it automatically minimises the application into the tray.

Hi @Jademalo,

Thank you. With regard to "where on login it opens the window and prompts to unlock. Once unlocked, it automatically minimises the application into the tray." I would recommend that you submit this as a Feature Request here (https://community.bitwarden.com/c/feature-requests/pm-feature-requests/55) and hopefully we'd be able to incorporate that into a future release.

I thank you in advance for your understanding,
