Questions on whether questions make sense based on pilot:

Where are political views and sector of work questions?

Block 2:

• miles driven: do people respond reasonable numbers? entry boxes are difficult. I suggest we put "less than X", between "X and Y", etc.. as answer options.
• same comment on flights taken.
• "home-work" is not clear. Use "commute to work or place of study"
• "Leisure" is also not clear. Recreational and leisure activities (excluding holiday travel).
• Q2.9 has "that" twice. Switch that question to be horizontal, wherever possible, with least favorable on the left; most favorable to the right
• "strongly disagree to strongly agree" is the way to go, rather than :"fully"
• Wherever it is NOT a knowledge question do NOT have the "don't know" option. Like do you feel there is sufficient transporation, there is not need ot have dont know.

• Block 3:

• question Q3.7 is too vague in my view. What were the answer patterns? Informative at all? I think we need a much simpler question about how pressing of an issue climate change is relative to other issues, and they indicate on a slide from 1 to 10 from "not serious and not urgent at all" to "extremely serious and urgent". If we already have that question (going in order right now..) then we can take this one out altogether.

Block 4, 5, and 6: We never discussed this: were there any interesting things here? Please take out block 4.

I will wait for confirmation that I am looking at most up to date file before I continue.

Answering your points:

• people's answers are in line with official statistics for miles driven and the number of flights. Having entry boxes allows to have a continuous variable, avoids embarrassing people when their estimate corresponds to a threshold, and to have exactly the same categories in miles and km. But OK I've changed it to multiple choices.
• changes have already been made similar to your proposal in the questionnaire, by you I guess, so I guess these points are already addressed.
• I don't see any Q2.9 question: which one are you referring to?
• Indeed, it made no sense to have a "don't know" option for transport availability. More generally, we already discussed whether to keep the "don't know" options and I had understood you accepted it. I wrote: "Currently, we have PNR options almost everywhere and we force response. I found it more appropriate because otherwise missing answers are not easily interpretable: are they lazy people with an opinion, or people without an opinion? Also, one can genuinely "don't know" or "don't want to answer" (e.g. because the option corresponding to their views is not represented) to an opinion question."
• you can find the answers in figures/envi_US.png. Half of people highly value sustainability. I find this question quite informative as it allows to qualitatively understand how people view the issue of sustainability. For example, if the answers only ranged along the serious/urgent scale, we could not capture the "doomers" who think that civilization will eventually collapse so it is not worth it to make sacrifices for the future. Also, I think this serious/urgent dimension is already addressed with our "how worried..." question.
• The open fields are in the questionnaire since the beginning, I thought you agreed to explore the views people express prior to any framing. It is actually quite interesting to read these essays (and doesn't add much duration to the survey, 20 seconds per box), and I am quite interested in the comparative study of these essays across countries. So I'd really like to keep this block 4.

thank you -- i guess i was not using the right questionnaire. I was referring to Q2.9 in this old survey here "Climate Survey" that is Q2.9 Do you agree or disagree that that public transport is available where you live?

I will go over the survey asap that Tobias sent. But if you can already (Bluebery too, given his experience) go through those questions that have a complicated format would be great.

Oh OK I didn't find it because the wording has changed since, it is now simply: "Is public transport available where you live?" In general, the best place to read the questionnaire is on Qualtrics, not on github or through Word documents, as these are already outdated (we have already made some changes today for example).
