https://pypi.org/project/unidiff/ is a viable replacement for the binary dependency on patch/diffutils, which I am familiar with using via @coala.

If there are bits missing, I am sure we can find help adding the missing functionality.

Nice one. Wasn't aware of a diff implementation in python. Not sure if am able to add it in the next weeks but patches are always welcome.
