Help I'm trying to root this phone but MTK client wouldn't connect for some reason

MT6227 is very old and I haven't added support for it yet. You could try the --iot option. Which device (model / vendor) is it ?

MT6227 is from 2003, isn't it

yep. it has a very different protocol, similar to the iot-based ones like mt6261d
