Diagnostic: open prolate_spotted file, then change the healpix subdivisions to 1, then 2, then 4, 3, 7. Fun things happen: sometimes this works fine, sometime the number of subdivisions actually doesn't update at all, sometimes weird patterns appear, sometimes the spot disappears.
