Reduce padding between panels in 4-panel scatterplot figures and add more ticks along x axis so readers can easily identify relevant thresholds in linear relationships.

Pushed a fix for this - read commit message for details. This may need to be refined further depending on your advice, but I think the scatterplots look much better now.
