Page 2, introduction. I am not sure I would refer to the Cauchemez et al PNAS paper as traditional epidemiology. It's sophisticated statistical modelling of spatio-temporal data and the partial observation process. I think you are using different tools in epidemiology, obtaining complimentary insights, neither particularly traditional. You could just delete 'traditional' or use 'case-based'.
