Hi, thank you for your thoughts!
The Wifi only mode can already be configured. In the settings there is the listen address. The IP mask 0.0.0.0 means to allow access from everywhere. You can also use the IP mask of your local wifi network e.g. 192.168.3.0. In this case only devices from this network can access the device. Maybe it would be a good idea to default to the actual wifi IP mask instead of a full open one.
Using a hostname instead of an IP is a DNS server thing. You need to define a device name e.g. in your router to use that instead of the IP. If you don't want to use the port like "sailfish.local:8080" you need to change the port in the app settings to 80 (default http port), then "sailfish.local" is enough to connect.
File browser and media galleries would be nice.
Notifications should be possible.
I have the hostname thing configured with avahi on some of my devices. Ie if i want to connect to my router i type something like myrouter.local on the URL and i am welcomed with a login screen. I find this extremely user friendly. And TBH this is the way i'd like to do it on the phone also. No need to remember or trying to find IP addresses. Of course avahi need to be included in the OS and this has to be solved by jolla.
The whole idea behind stuff like that is user friendliness. Ie something your mom could also use easily(ish) without configuring ports etc. Obviously i am not against having advanced settings for those thtat know what they are doing.
Some other features (that might be too advanced):
This will probably will need to be split in the future (if the app moves forward) but lets start a discussion here:
