Fix for issue #53 - Packaging fails when the element contains a single element.

Unit tests also added.

FYI i created this branch on top of another pull request to prevent merge conflicts. You can ignore the first 4 commits when reviewing.

Verification passed on Windows. Packaging doesn't fail anymore.
