I run a minecraft modpack with friends. Since the pack is on 1.19.2, there are no other options for sorting in a sane way.
My users don't like touching config files, and shouldn't have to, to be frank.
A few improvements to make things run more smoothly for their use case:
Include a few blank preset profiles for the user to save to
Save the current state as "Saved" profile hotkey should be reworked into a Save As... hotkey that prompts the user with a name for the profile to be saved as to prevent collisions
A new Save Profile hotkey should save to the currently selected profile, rather than to a new one that is named identically to every other saved profile
Reload profiles.txt after every Save Profile hotkey or Save As... hotkey
Sort Order should be triggerable via a hotkey or a GUI button (as mentioned in #351)
This doesn't automate custom rule editing as much as would be useful to an end-user, but it would go miles and miles towards being able to give end users a more polished experience with this mod.
If they want, they can go through and edit the files manually, and get all of the power that they need.
However, I know my end-users aren't also developers, meaning that in the mod's current state, they will not be able to take advantage of profiles at all, and that's an unfortunate loss on functionality.
Have you asked for help in discord?
YES
Describe your desired feature.
link to where i asked. if you wanna tell me "go ask on discord," go respond to me there. As of this posting, that message has not been replied to. Hopefully that changes. Maybe I can even have a discussion of the issue here, as well?
