As for my standpoint it will come back (probably directly under a new name as it should have earlier already as some of you mentioned). However there won't be any youtube and/or any RIAA/VEVO related extractors on GitHub(!) that doesn't mean it will not be available.

I really hoped to would have made more progress on the plugin system. That way the whole project wouldn't have taken down. In the future I will likely put every extractor for now into a separate repository and providing some tool to download all available extractors - this only addresses the source code / development.

Will this new system be compatible with the legacy builds? i.e. could I continue to update an old version of youtube-dlc with the new plugin system updates, should something like no youtube extractors be present on the new version?

man having a core program with a plugin for each site would be great to be honest. have a folder for placing the configs for the sites or something.

This might be a great time to remove youtube from the name to make ongoing releases 'future proof' from other copyright actions.
