This is more an oddity and it feels wrong to label this a bug.
A lot of GNOME apps swaps to the included gtk dark theme, I'm assuming tootle does this, but in addition uses some custom CSS for highlighting posts that it also swaps depending on the theme.
Without "Dark Theme" set:

Would it be possible to do this with less/no custom css?
