Standard format for Stat buffs/attachments/changes in rules #648

This is something I think we haven't really talked about, but I think it's worth mentioning, especially as we go through and make sure our rules match each other in tone and style. There is quite a bit to unpack here, but I have two main discussion topics.

  1. Separating actual stat changes from flavor text

Examples: Not all scope attachments have flavor text, and their range modifications are listed in paragraph form:

== 6x Basic Scope $1400 == Not usable on pistols, SMGs. Add a range bracket with Miss Chance R4 = [R3's miss chance]+1 and Range R4 = R3+80m, +20m minimum range.

vs.

== 1x Dot Sight $350 ==

Your basic tube-shaped dot-projection. Dot can be changed from

blue-green-red for various lighting situations and terrains.

Miss Chance reduction (in all Range Brackets) by weapon type:

  • -1 for Pistols
  • -0.5 other.
  • +3m R3 Range

I find the Dot Sight easier to read, but I would like other's opinions on that.

  1. Adopting a standardization for what stat changes look like

For the most part, we use "+" and "-" to indicate when stats change, but this is not universal. There are some instances of 'increase', 'decrease', etc. I think the symbol indicators make the changes stand out more to the eye as an important change in the paragraph. I would like the go-ahead to move this forward as a standardization of rule formatting, and add a note about it in the Design Guide.

I'm glad you like the dot sight better, 'cause as part of standardizing to make play playable, I've added flavor text to all of 'em and moved to a much more dot-sight-example format in this PR: https://github.com/bleehu/Compound_X/pull/644

I agree that standardizing on mathematical symbols to indicate stat change should be added to the style guide.

I agree wholeheartedly to everything!
