Change elevation
Add native shadow
Improve layout

Getting the nav drawer to display above the action bar but below the status bar is not simple. See here for an explanation of how to achieve this effect.

There are a few more things we can do to improve this, so I'm reopening this issue.

[ ] Improve font (I believe the Material Design guidelines call for a heavier font weight than we're currently using)
[ ] Improve top spacing -- look for guidance in the design guidelines
[ ] Use colored icons for highlighted items
[ ] Add some sort of logo or banner to top of drawer?
[ ] Update left and right margins to conform to guidelines on tablets
