I see you also changed a body of the cube from black to grey-ish. Personally I like black body better. But now the dead pixels are gone (as well as addition light when the cube is rotated)...
If it is not too much difficult (which I believe it is - or at least it is not worth it) + after fixing bug about multiple cubes in one page, could you put into the website realistic one, a practical one and a beautiful one (for a comparison all of them) so that the differences would be more visible?
In any case, I will take whatever you create :-). I would say we want a solution which will be least time-consuming for you, because the differences are minimal for the end user to notice...
Regarding "eye-effect" - I personally do not see a difference in terms of realictic/practical/beautiful thing.
When holding the real cube, the left and right sides/faces are almost invisible.
I think this is a good idea to reflect realism, I will work on it. But we shouldn't forgo usefulness of the display: all sides (F,R,U) should still be clearly visible.
