Binary package release has packageGen directory, causes SL incompatibility

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. not compatible with snow leopard
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

error when pc is started stating extension did not work. please reinstall.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
mac osx 10.6 snow leopard

Please provide any additional information below.
tried installing twice and does not work

It's only a problem with the installer. It can be temporary fixed in your 
install by removing the directory 
/System/Library/Extensions/logKext.kext/Contents/packageGen

hi,
yeah i looked for this file before the install in 'show package contents' and 
after
the install in the system directory and i didn't see it.
were is this file located?

Isn't it already installed and fails to load after upgrading to snow leopard?
Or it attempts to 'reinstall' its extension after kernel changes?

when you go to install you get this error "The system extension
"System/Library/Extensions/logKext.kext" was installed improperly and 
cannot be used. please reinstall or contact developer for update"
when you fire up terminal and type "sudo logkextclient" it says command not 
found.

This can be worked around by removing packageGen from logKext.kext and 
re-loading the kext, or 
building/installing from source.

logKext is no longer under active development by drspringfield. If you would

logKext, please contact me.

I've been able to make this work on Snow Leopard with the 64-bit kernel. I'll 
have more 
information available later, but the logKextDaemon needs some changes to work.

I made a small mistake in the version without the installer; if you install 
logKext first 
from the package on this site, it should work fine.

Most of the necessary changes to the source were in logKextDaemon; also, the 
kext's 
Info.plist had to be modified.

It slowed down my system considerably so I had to uninstall it.
Any way it can be "tweaked" to eat up less resources?

Finding /usr/bin is easy: use the "Go to Folder" menu item of Finder (Shift Cmd 
G)

I confirm that the files advertised above do work for my machine (10.6.1).

Is working fine for me. Steps were simple:

1. Download the current logKext from here.
2. Unzip, run the install. You'll get an error saying that the extension 
couldn't be loaded. That's fine.
3. Download from the link listed in comment 17 (Thanks!)
4. The first folder is easy to copy. Just select those files, cmd-c, navigate 
to folder, cmd-v
5. Second folder you will first have to delete the already existing 
logKextExtension, then copy yours in, 
putting in your admin password as necessary
6. For the last copy, it's easiest if you open up terminal. type in "sudo cp -f 
", then drag/drop the third file 
(logKextClient) into the terminal window. finish up with " /usr /bin" so 
altogether it looks something like this: 
"sudo cp -f /Users/<username>/Downloads/logKext/goes\ into\ 
:usr:bin/logKextClient /usr/bin/"
7. hit enter and put in your admin password
8. run logKextClient. Yay!

my old logfile however won't get decrypted properly, so I have to start from 
scratch. Oh well.

Ok, I love LogKext but I am at a complete loss as how to make this work for SL. 
I am
not well versed in how to edit my already installed verson of logkext. The 1-8 
steps
would really help if someone could put it in english please! :)

An updated build has been released that should work with Snow Leopard. 
Therefore, I 
am closing this issue. If there are any problems with it, please create a new 
issue report.

This build may generate an error message during install which can be safely 
ignored

The error message should be fixed by now. That was caused by an Apple bug.

Hi,

I have OS X 10.6.4.

I got the same problem as Comment 10 regarding "The system extension
"System/Library/Extensions/logKext.kext" was installed improperly..." and then 
Issue 34 (Is logKextDaemon running?) when trying to execute logKextClient.

I didn't manage to use comment 17 to solve the problem. However, I solved the 
problem by removing all files from:
- /Library/Application Support/logKext/*
and the following 2 files:
- /System/Library/Extensions/logKext.kext
- /usr/bin/logKextClient

Then I installed the package logKext-2.3.pkg as root using the command:
sudo installer -pkg path/to/logKext-2.3.pkg -target /

I am trying to install this on my Mac 10.6.5 I've done everything from comment 
34 and when I click on Activate this shows up- 
You are about to enable logKext for Snow Leopard.
Warning: item already exists
com.fsb.logKext: Already loaded
LogKext active!
logout

What I don't understand is how to actually run the program now. So any help 
would be great.
