How to identify 1904 date format when reading a xls file #128

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. I have xls file and i want to know the date format used in the excel whether 
the base date is 1/1/1904 or 1/1/1900
2. there is no way to know this. do you have any documenttation which says this 
or what is the way

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
since the sate is 1904 format i am getting all the dates -4 yrs when i read it

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
MS excel 2003 - xlx format

Please provide any additional information below.
using excellibrary how to find the basedate ie 1/1/1900 or 1/1/1904?

sorry there is a typo..
the excel format is xls
