@coretl I'm unsure as to why I made those changes in the initial CI adoption... I was probably too aggressive in my adjustments to the skeleton CI and added some unnecessary features.

There is still one difference from https://github.com/bluesky/python3-pip-skeleton/blob/main/.github/workflows/linkcheck.yml, could you copy it again please?
