@mrakitin : Additional work here would be to use the new (top-level import) shortcuts in all the documentation and examples. First, let's review the implementation. This is motivated by similar shortcuts in ophyd.

Some of this work was done in commits c1e1db6e28868 and d43abca75bd4 with respect to the geometries module. See #190

Completion of this should wait until #190 is merged.
