The most reasonably priced high quality aquarium I could find online is this one: https://www.olx.pt/d/anuncio/kit-aqurio-1-metro-loja-especializada-IDHvqQe.html
To be clear: I'm definitely conflicted on "confining" fish in an aquarium their whole lives ... π I'd much rather just live in nature and have lots of wild animals to observe ... But in leu of that, an aquarium with fish our children can "look after" is a good start.
Once we've built the stand for the aquarium we can fill it with water and head to Nova Arcada to buy the fish. β³
Apparently:

Champs collected the Aquarium and brought it up to Braga yesterday: π
As carefully measured before buying it, fits snugly in the back of the IQ. β
Need to build a stand for it before
we can set it up. π§
Our aquarium is finally up and running and ready to receive fish! π π
Heading to the pet+fish store now. π
We visited the pet/fish shop today and the owner advised that we have to wait 2 weeks for the filter to clean the water we put in todayβ¦ β³ So we will revisit this in 2 weeks and collect our fish. ππ€πΌ
We also need to decide whether we want to have real plants in the tank and if so, change the lighting to all white LEDs!
@iteles with all respect to the pet shop owner, white light is not necessary for plant growth/health. In fact the spot where the aquarium is gets more than enough natural light so no light is needed. I'm keen on having real plants even if just as a learning experience.
Me too π Keeping it simple at first.
We have discussed aquariums in the past π¬ β They are popular way for children to learn about animals in Montessori Schools: https://youtu.be/OsxEBcCe8Y0 π
When we visited the Porto Montessori School last August our son was transfixed by their tank in the entrance:
It's the first thing everyone sees when they enter; just below their main notice board.
