csFeedback.exe does not seem to do anything while I am playing Elite Dangerous #16

Hello,

I have always been a PC gamer. I bought my first Microsoft Sidewinder Forcefeedback joystick back in the late 1990s. I immediately purchased their force feedback joystick months later. I read your guide on how to utilize your program. Does this app only work for consoles such as the X-Box?

Or am I doing something wrong while I play ED on my PC?

Please help!

I am going to need the output from the program.

  1. Start the EDForceFeedback.exe program.
  2. Start Elite. Copy the output from the program and paste it back here.

I'll look through the output and see if there is something that is causing this not to respond.

Where does one copy the output from? Can you include some screenshots in your email please?

When you run the program (EDForceFeedback.exe) a console window opens and the program begins writing to the window.

Select the icon in the top left corner.
Click "Edit" and then "Select All" Then click the icon again Click "Edit" and "Copy"

Paste the output into a response here and I can look through it to see if there is a reason this is not working for you.

Are you running on Windows 10? I am running on the latest Windows 10 OS

-Win10 (latest) This program is using the DirectX libraries that were updated last back in 2004. There is nothing that should be preventing you from running it on all versions of Windows 10.

The application works like this:

  1. You start the program before you start playing Elite Dangerous (PC)
  2. You start up Elite Dangerous
  3. The program watches the Elite Dangerous log files that Elite writes to when the game is running.
  4. When the program detects certain entries in the logs it can "play" a force feedback effect on the joystick.

The best test to see if this is going to work for you is to run the program "FEdit.exe" found in the "EDForceFeedback\FFUtils" folder included with the EDForcefeedback release zip file.

To test FEdite.exe

  1. Start the program
  2. Select the joystick icon (the 4th one from the left in the toolbar)
  3. Select the Microsoft ForceFeeback joystick and click OK
  4. Click on one of the yellow icons (Square is a good one) and it will place a force effect in the editor
  5. Grab your joystick (there is a sensor on it and it will not do anything unless you are gripping it)
  6. Click the play icon

After a second or two the joystick should play a force for a couple of seconds.

If this works then everything should work in the EDForceFeedback program.
If it doesn't work, check the instructions and try again. Make sure the green light is lit on the joystick. You can also try another USB port on your PC. I have had issues with specific USB controllers in my computer recently and switching to another group of ports fixed my issues.

If there is still an issue with the EDForceFeedback program, I need the messages that it is outputting to diagnose what your problem may be.

I hope this helps,

Bob

What is the program called and what does it look like? Maybe I am opening the wrong program before I start Elite Dangerous. I do not know where to get these messages that the program is outputting. How can I find this information? I would like to send it to you so you can troubleshoot it.

I unzipped EdForceFeedback zip file and opened FEdite.exe. Yes, the testing portion of it works when I follow steps 1 through 6. However, there is no feedback within the game while I am playing.

The program is: EDForceFeedback.exe

Or it might look like this:

When it is running, it opens a window with text like the black one in my responses above.
