Maverick error 11 on Mac High Sierra #2

Open PAMorin opened 6 years ago

PAMorin commented 6 years ago

I started using MavericK several months ago on my previous Mac with the Sierra operating system. I recently changed to a new MacBookPro with the High Sierra operating system, and when I tried to use MavericK (line 44 in the attached R script), I get the error message:

Error in maverickRun(g, params = list(Kmin = kmin, Kmax = kmax, admix_on = FALSE, : Error running MavericK. Error code 11 returned.

I haven't been able to figure out what this error code refers to. Have you seen this, and is it an issue with High Sierra? I tried to sent this request by email to maverick.help@bobverity.com, but it bounced back.

Thanks,

Hi Phillip,

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Unfortunately MavericK code is untested on Sierra, so that could indeed be part of the problem. I recently had a look back through the code base to see if I could bring it up to speed and improve compatibility, but after struggling for a couple of days I concluded that the best way to ensure compatibility is to jump to the next step in the development plan, which is to bring it into R. I’ve got most of “rmaverick” up and running, and hope to fill in some gaps over the next weeks. So my advice would be to move to rmaverick, which should hopefully solve your problem.

If you want to have a go with the rmaverick version you can see basic installation and running instructions here (https://github.com/bobverity/rmaverick). This is still in development, so there will be some changes to plots and outputs over the coming weeks, but the basic program is there. Let me know if you have any trouble.

All the best, Bob

Hi Bob,

I was eventually able to get it working on my new Mac with High Sierra, and had planned to write you this week (but the holiday and other issues got in the way). The error messages were uninformative, so it took a while to sort out the problem, but I think it ended up being something as simple as having the application name spelled correctly in the usr/local/bin directory and using a matched spelling and case in the R-script. I ended up modifying the MaverickRun function to get it to run on my computer.

I've attached my Rnotebook in case it's of interest to you. We do a lot of population analyses using various stratifications of the data, and use the strataG package for a lot of analyses and data handling, so I've incorporated the gtypes object structure into the script to make it easy to re-run with different subsets of the data.

Cheers,

Phil
